Executive Chef Jason Mallon
Since the age of 15, Chef Jason Mallon has known his way around a restaurant. Originally, from St. Augustine, Chef Jason worked every position and dug his roots in the hospitality industry during his 10 years at a casual steakhouse. Chef Jason joined the Ocean Prime family in 2009, where he has been a part of two Ocean Prime teams that have received the Cameron Mitchell Restaurants’ Restaurant of the Year award.
Now a leader at Ocean Prime Tampa, Chef Jason hopes to continue to embody our company culture and “walk the talk”. The best advice he could give to anyone interested in restaurants and hospitality is to always remain teachable. Always do the right thing for the right reasons and the opportunities you strive for will eventually present themselves.
When not working hard in the kitchen, Chef Jason enjoys fishing and boating, watching movies and hanging out with his wife and son.
General Manager Kal Harris
Kal Harris began his hospitality experience as a bus boy, then quickly grew into a management position by the age of 19. Establishing his passion for the industry, he has held various leadership positions in restaurants and country clubs. Originally from Buffalo, New York, Harris established roots in Tampa more than 10 years ago, and most recently served as Managing partner for a restaurant in Tampa.
After meeting the Ocean Prime team in Tampa and experiencing the restaurant as a guest, Harris was drawn to the dynamic workplace culture and Cameron Mitchell Restaurants’ focus on empowering associates to learn and grow. In addition to bringing extensive experience to Ocean Prime, Harris believes his greatest assets are his appreciation for genuine hospitality, his quest to enhance the guest’s experience, and his focus on caring for associates.
Having recently joined Ocean Prime in Tampa, Harris has already witnessed the impact of Ocean Prime’s genuine hospitality: “We recently had a guest who was hosting an early Thanksgiving dinner as he prepared to send his daughter away to school. Executive Chef Adam Polisei and team prepared an extra special meal for the family, including traditional Thanksgiving side dishes that aren’t on the Ocean Prime menu, and made sure they had a special celebration that was especially memorable,” said Harris. “To me, it’s all about making connections, and making memories, and that’s what we did for this family.”
Harris grew up playing hockey, and is also a big sports fan (Go Bills!) In his free time, Harris can be found watching sports or spending time outdoors enjoying Florida life and fishing.
